Paul Qui arrested covered in blood after 'drug-fueled assault on girlfriend' because she 'agreed to group sex'
The arrest affidavit seen by KXAN said officers arrived after receiving a call from one of Qui's friends who reported that the couple were fighting.
She grabbed some of her things and tried to leave with her son, but said Qui 'stood in front of the door' and blocked her exit and 'forcibly pushed her and her son away'.
In 2011 Qui won outright the ninth season on Top Chef, and was named by head judge Tom Colicchio as the most talented chef to appear on the first 12 seasons. He opened his first restaurant, Qui, in Austin shortly after his win.

Chef winner Paul Qui has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his
girlfriend. The Austin restaurateur was charged after police were
called to his apartment early on Saturday morning to find his
girlfriend in tears and him covered in blood.
According to TMZ, the incident was sparked when Qui's friends propositioned Stephanie Rodriguez for group sex.
The arrest affidavit seen by KXAN said officers arrived after receiving a call from one of Qui's friends who reported that the couple were fighting.
They are said to have found the 31-year-old with 'blood all over his face, arms, legs and clothing'.
The apartment was in disarray with smashed glass and furniture, and blood smeared on the walls and floor, according to police.
They found Rodriguez inside the apartment, holding a small child and crying.
One
of the officers noted that he 'could see a fresh cut on her right
forearm and bruising on her upper arms from Qui grabbing on her and
throwing her around the apartment', adding that the right side of her
jaw was 'slightly puffy and swollen'.
She told police that Qui was 'very controlling and extremely jealous'.
She
said she had been asleep with her son when Qui returned home with a
group of friends, and allegedly began taking drugs and alcohol.
He
asked her to join them and she did; but when the intoxicated chef
began accusing his friends of flirting with her, he kicked them all
out.

His girlfriend alleges he returned home with friends and began taking
drugs and drink, but then flew into a jealous rage when they 'began
flirting with her'
She said he then flew into a rage, throwing her against the walls and doors and telling her she could not leave.
She grabbed some of her things and tried to leave with her son, but said Qui 'stood in front of the door' and blocked her exit and 'forcibly pushed her and her son away'.
Qui
admitted to not allowing her to leave because 'he wanted the police to
come and see all the damage in the apartment' and added that he
'wanted to be able to tell his side of the story'.
He said he 'was only grabbing and holding her so she didn’t leave before police arrived'.
He
also stated that his girlfriend had not assaulted him; however his
mugshot appears to show noticeable cuts and bruises to his face.
