...hailed as Broadway's brightest new star and Lupita Nyong'o, 33, certainly lit up a dingy New York sidewalk on Thursday.
'I never went on, and I promised myself back then that I would play "The Girl" some day, somehow, somewhere, so it’s mind blowing to get to do it on Broadway,'
The 12 years a Slave star is winning rave reviews for her Broadway debut in the drama Eclipsed, about the civil war in Liberia.
And on Thursday she was a guest at AOL Build to promote the play written by Danai Gurira.
The 33-year-old, who won a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for 12
Years A Slave, lit up the Manhattan sidewalk with her bright smile and
colorful attire
She's starring in the new Broadway hit play,
Eclipsed, so Lupita Nyong'o has a lot to smile about. The Academy Award
winner was spotted out and about in NYC wearing a dress pulled from
Gucci's Spring 2016 collection.
Covered with a chic snake and floral print design, the midi length shirt dress fit Lupita to a T. She teamed it with a pair of pink pumps and dark shades for a look that was just perfect for Spring.
Gucci's runway was filled with fresh floral pieces as well as other animal motifs including lady bugs, birds and tigers. Sadly this piece is unavailable to buy online, but Net-A-Porter has the brand's current looks up for grabs.

Pretty as a picture: Nyong'o
accessorized with diamond earrings and oversized sunglasses and her
dress featured gem stones on the cuffs and a pair of bright red lips at
the waist
In the handwritten notes she photographed and posted on social media, the actress revealed that Eclipsed is the first ever play on Broadway to be performed, directed and written by all women.
She
also shared with fans that before the curtain goes up, she can be
typically found knitting backstage, as it 'helps calm the nerves.'
Co-stars: Nyong'o was joined by her
fellow cast members - Saycon Sengbloh, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and
Pascale Armandas - for the event where they talked about their play
Eclipsed
Gracious
and gorgeous: The lovely star laughed as she took questions and appeared
to be in tremendous spirits as she interacted with fans
The play, set in 2003, tells the story of five women near the end of the Second Liberian Civil War.
It
is almost entirely set in a small one-room shack where three of the
women are being held by the Commanding Officer of a rebel faction, who
basically uses them as sex slaves.
The Academy Award winner explained in one of her pointers that one of the methods used by Women’s Peace Movement to try bring about the end of the war was a sex strike.
