New CDC state 1 in 2 gay black men will get AIDS in their lifetime
1 in 4 gay Hispanics will be diagnosed, as well as 1 in 11 gay white men
Overall lifetime risk of HIV infection for average Americans in 1 in 99
The population groups most at risk of HIV infection were black men who
have sex with men (MSM in the graph), facing a one in two risk, followed
by Hispanic gay men (one in four) and white gay men (one in 11)
The factors that contribute to the higher risk HIV risk associated with gay and bisexual black men include socioeconomic circumstances – such as limited access to quality health care and higher levels of unemployment – smaller sexual networks and lack of awareness of HIV status.
People living in the District of Columbia have the highest risk of infection - one in 13 - followed by Maryland (one in 49), Georgia (one in 51) and Florida (one in 54). In contrast, North Dakota residents face the lowest risk
