Eviction: Marie Hatch, 97, was served with eviction papers this month giving her 60 days to move out of the home in Burlingame, California where she has lived for the past 66 years
Hatch first moved into the home 66 years ago, and says her original landlord gave her permission to stay there as long as she wanted
The year Marie Hatch moved into the wood-shingled cottage in tony Burlingame that she calls home, Harry Truman was president and “Goodnight Irene” was a radio hit. Her landlord and friend, Vivian Kruse, told her she could live in the cottage until she died.
Fast-forward 66 years. Kruse is dead, her daughter is dead, and her granddaughter is dead. They each passed down the lifetime guarantee of tenancy for Hatch — but when the final woman died, so did the verbal agreement, the current landlord says. San Fransisco Chronicle

Since news
of the eviction has swept local media reports, two attorneys at
powerhouse law firm Cotchett, Pitre and McCarthy have offered to take on
Hatch's case, free of charge.
Nancy Fineman believes her client's situation qualifies as a wrongful eviction.
'That woman will not leave her house,' Joe Cotchett, partner at the firm, said in a statement to the San Jose Mercury News.
